Success of Inca civilization a result of global warming that lasted for 400 years
Lima (Peru), July 2 : In a new study, a team of scientists have determined that the success of the Inca was boosted by a period of global warming that lasted more than four centuries.
The new study is called “Putting the Rise of the Inca within a Climatic and Land Management Context” and was prepared by Alex Chepstow-Lusty, an English paleo-biologist working for the French Institute of Andean Studies, in Lima, Peru.
The Inca Empire was the largest empire in pre-Columbian America. It began as a support group in the Cuzco area, where the legendary first Sapa Inca, Manco Capac founded the Kingdom of Cuzco around 1200.
According to a report in Living in Peru, a team of English and US scientists has analyzed pollen, seeds and isotopes in core samples taken from the deep mud of a small lake not far from Machu Picchu to determine that the success of the Inca was underpinned by a period of warming that lasted more than four centuries.
The four centuries coincided directly with the rise of this startling, hyper-productive culture that at its zenith was bigger than the Ming Dynasty China and the Ottoman Empire, the two most powerful contemporaries of the Inca.
“This period of increased temperatures allowed the Inca and their predecessors to expand, from AD 1150 onwards, their agricultural zones by moving up the mountains to build a massive system of terraces fed frequently by glacial water, as well as planting trees to reduce erosion and increase soil fertility,” said the scientists.
“They re-created the landscape and produced the huge surpluses of maize, potatoes, quinua and other crops that freed a rapidly growing population to build roads, scores of palaces like Machu Picchu and in particular the development of a large standing army,” they added.
According to Alex, the report “raises the question of whether today’s global warming may be another opportunity for the Andes.”

These green freaks are a bunch of wackos who are too rediculous their stupid ideas such as THE EARTH HOUR or going VEGAN over this global warming poppycock proves their dedicated idiots and AL GORE is a con artist and a liar asa well asa hypotcrit
Al Gore is a salesman and he exaggerates. In 2015 the Arctic sea ice will still be there and we will all know that Al Gore was wrong, (again).
More people are seeing GLOBAL WARMING as what it realy is a fruad and a hoax
Offsetting your carbon footprint by staking claim to existing trees and plants is nothing more than plant-life extortion……..Al Gore and his cronies are pimping out trees.
If they so desperately believed the hoax that they have crafted…..they would be hell bent on cutting their own energy consumption.
Regardless…..the middle class will bare the ultimate burden of this destructive scam by way of global warming hoax generated inflation.
A link to this web-site should….and MUST be forwarded to Glenn Beck……..The work you’re doing here is simpley amazing and I thank you for your efforts.
Lord Monckton is doing a sterling job to bring back truth and integrity into climate science. We should all be thankful for his tireless efforts. Monckton has exposed who the true ‘deniers’ are in Copenhagen – its those greens who refuse to read the Climategate emails or check their facts properly. It all seems so obvious to a coastal dweller like me. You see, I live on the picturesque east coast of England where house prices go through the roof. I wanted to see what all the fuss was about so I started reading up on what Al Gore and the United Nations’ IPCC had to say. Apparently, the story goes that the ice caps and glaciers are melting so fast that in the next 50 years sea levels may rise up to 30 feet. Wow! But hold on a minute, I have never seen any evidence for it in my back yard. Oh dear! Apparently, I’m now a ‘flat earth denier’ for being sceptical of good old Al.
Not being one to like being called names I did some reading what oceanographers – not climatologists or Al Gore – had to say about sea level rises.
Here is what I found. Apparently, the most reliable data on sea levels comes from a set of the world’s tidal gauges. There is a very good web site on this by the University of Colorado where they present two graphs, Jason-1 Calibration and TOPEX Calibration. That’s funny, I thought, when I looked at it. Because those measurements say very similar things to what I read on other web sites. It seems a lot of oceanographers agree with the Colorado numbers. They include peer-reviewed papers by Antonov et al. (2005); Ishii et al. (2005) and Willis et al. (2005) who all report rises equal to seven inches per century.
I then looked closer to home and found that here in England we have Simon Holgate from the U.K.’s Proudman Oceanographic Laboratory. Holgate in 2007 produced a history of global sea level from 1904 to 2003 based upon a set of reliable, long-term observations from nine tide gauge stations scattered around the world. He also finds that the levels are rising by about 7 inches per century. Is this normal?
Well, apparently, yes because that’s exactly the rate of sea level rise we’ve been seeing naturally ever since the last ice age 11,000 years ago. Phew! Seems like the realtors in my area got their numbers right and Al Gore got his wrong. Maybe we won’t be paying all those climate taxes after all?
***-53 Degrees*** Edmonton, Alberta set a record LOW temperature for the entire continent of North America yesterday. Thank God for Global Warming, for it could have been much worse. (sarcastic pun intended)
Love your work. Thank you.
I have a request and an offering. The latter will likely discredit me with many but that’s the life of truthtelling. People often get scared and choose ignorance.
If you can’t stand it snip it or whatever. The truth abides.
I ask for anyone’s help with pointers to debunking of some of the latest filth in today’s Daily Telegraph paper.
I note their position is that previous warming was solar but “during the second half of the 20th century there was fast global warming for which there are no known natural explanations. Only the known physics of greenhouse gases can explain events.”
The assertions include:
1 = The Arctic melt has been in recent years “greater” and in 2008, “probably for the first time in thousands of years, both the north-west and north-east shipping passages through the Arctic, north of Canada and Siberia were ice-free.”
2 = Even though we are in a natural cooling phase (yeah, they grudgingly admit that)
“2009 is expected to be the fourth or fifth warmest year on record”.
“Once natural cycles move back to a warming phase, global warming will go into overdrive”.
3 = “But changes in solar radiation cannot explain what has happened in the past half century [BS! I include that merely for context, but here is the point:] If anything, they would have cooled us since about 1980, but that was the period of most rapid warming.”
They lie and deceive throughout but these are the points I would like help in refuting.
Also note they call water vapour ” a major natural greenhouse gas”, a not the, the implication being that maybe it is no more warming than CO2. Of course they are miles apart. They say “it roughly doubles the warming caused by directly by CO2″, owing to positive feedback.
Typically they provide no comparison between the strengths and massive quantity difference between water and co2. That would be informative and distracting from their “scientific” message.
In my slightly desperate wishful thinking I began to believe the UK Daily Telegraph was a bedrock of moderate right-wing liberal capitalist ClimateChange scepticism/denial in the form of Christopher Booker and backers. That rare dissent has been ignored recently with much bilge instead. As usual the CO2 haters and “objective scientists” lie like they’ve been trained by champion crazies. The techniques of outright lies and implications of lies and deception are becoming horribly familiar to you. True to form they repeat the lies for imprinting effect: one article title is “How robust is the science predicting global warming?”.
They say very robust. I say robust is an occult joke on the public (hint: a Robin can look robust).
Naturally the scepticism was a controlled and limited opposition to the Establishment, coming as it was in the Mass Media from Thatcher’s old Science advisor (i.e.an oil and nuke supporting liar who worked for Big Pharma etc. to no good whatsover.).
They are a sneaky set of schemers.
For those still stuck in the conditioned mind that there are no grand conspiracies (despite the genuinely overwhelming evidence) the following observation will seem to be ridiculous paranoia. For those brickbrains I suggest a big overdose of sleeping pills. The battle lines in thought and action are drawn: Facism versus Freedom.
Stupid and ignorant charity towards the Establishment is killing everything.
The Rich buy newspapers so can they control their workers.
I pray you can be openminded to be wise to the cleverly deniable “subliminal” “hidden” meaning of this little 2 by 1 inch article in their 2 page propaganda spread on Copenhagen.
I only noticed it instantly myself because I misread it at first glance, thanks to their formatting. I preserve the formatting to show you with my emphasis added.

Since the need to cut CO2 is so vital the Truthgraph is obviously fully justified in asserting this need for ruthless policing of cop15.
See? It is you unreliable adherents of the scurrilous blogosphere that cause police brutality. What people mistakenly believe is Eco-Fascism or Eco-Trotskyism,
is simply the sensible Authorities’ mature and intelligent facing of the facts and taking the necessary action.
Crushing dissent is a necessary lesser of two evils. Can’t you see that, you Evil locos?
First you claim respected professors are conspiring to lie and backstab to push an evil agenda, now you are seeing “hidden messages”. An M.D. would say that was paranoid schizophrenia. You deniers need medical attention for your stubborn insane selfishness.
Sarcasm sucks but can be useful…
Do please enjoy these last few months of liberal capitalism. The luxuries will be vanishingly rare in years to come after the CC caps are slapped on. Investor confidence will crash, the top bankers dumping stocks and markets in a military design like the 911 WTC demolition, and the dollar will dive, along with the pound. Then all Hell will break loose, by design, then a Shining Saviour will be proffered to head a NWO of order and peace. Then he will be revealed to be Evil. That “AntiChrist” will be extremely violently deposed by a new Messiah, “The True Christ”. He will be Evil too. It will follow the Revelation script and is almost totally predictable as far as their part goes. What we do is up to us.
You have been warned. Don’t trust the shepherds. Be prepared. KNow yourself.

Some great quotes from the enviro-freaks:
“The common enemy of humanity is man. In searching for a new enemy to unite us, we came up with the idea that pollution, the threat of global warming, water shortages, famine and the like would fit the bill. All these dangers are caused by human intervention, and it is only through changed attitudes and behavior that they can
be overcome. The real enemy then, is humanity itself.”
- Club of Rome — premier environmental think-tank, consultants to the UN
“We need to get some broad based support, to capture the public’s imagination… So we have to offer up scary scenarios, make simplified, dramatic statements and make little mention of any doubts… Each of us has to decide what the right balance is between being effective and being honest.”
- Prof. Stephen Schneider — Stanford Professor of Climatology, lead author of many IPCC reports
“We’ve got to ride this global warming issue. Even if the theory of global warming is wrong, we will be doing the right thing in terms of economic and environmental policy.”
- Timothy Wirth — President of the UN Foundation
“It doesn’t matter what is true, it only matters what people believe is true.”
- Paul Watson — co-founder of Greenpeace
“Unless we announce disasters no one will listen.”
- Sir John Houghton — first chairman of IPCC
If I was Obama I would avoid Copenhagen like the plauge. No good can come out of it. Even before Climategate it would have been hard to get any treaty to be ratified by the US Senate. This reduces the chances to zero and any treaty he signs isn’t worth the paper it is written unless it is ratified by the senate.
“Do as I say….not as I do”……….You’d think that the grand pooh-bah on global warming would be ever so conscious about his own energy consumption.
It was a total surprise when our swimming pool was too COLD to utilize this summer……We even use a solar heating cover….yet…the water was below 74 degrees for a majority of the summer months and the expense of using chemicals was deemed to be a total waste………….It’s a bit ironic….if the cap & tax bill passes….we won’t be able to afford the luxury of a swimming pool anyhow….so it was a good lesson to learn……Global warming only shows up in Al Gore’s movies!

If you go into the research with an open mind it’s easy to end up on the skeptic side (the evil side). If you go in to the research believing in AGW, then most people will follow whatever research will support that beleif and remain on the Believer side (the good side).
I was a strong AGW Believer until a couple of years ago when the UN IPCC put out thier last major report. Once I actually read the reports I was devestated. It took me several weeks to get my head around it and realize that I had been fooled for years. It was the biggest transformation I have ever experienced, going from the good side over to the evil side. I am forever grateful to the UN IPCC for that.
Thank you. I teach Science at the junior level. Our school’s Science department invited ACE to speak at our achool. I was appalled by the socialist propaganda spewed by these people. You are 100% correct when you say they are fear mongering & indoctrinating our kids. I do hope the school’s administration is inundated with parent complaints. They deserve it for allowing this group to speak to our students. I resent the fact that they told the kids they take up too much space on Earth, that the Unioted States is to blame for the woes of the world, Katrina is still an issue blamed on the Bush administration, and finally that their parents and elders are to blame for global warming. This type of education should take us back to the stone ages!!

If ordinary bulbs are banned forever. What happens in case the CFLs are produced in low quality. There are many cases where the CFLs and LEDs failed. I opine the governments must rethink on this aspect. Thanks for sharing with us.
Joseph D’Aleo states: Temperatures have been cooling since 2002, even as carbon dioxide has continued to rise.
Absolutely NOT true nor is a 6 year period meaningful when discussing climate change. Please see my Global Cooling page at: http://www2.sunysuffolk.edu/mandias/global_warming/global_dimming.html for a detailed examination (including temperature plots and trneds) of this fallacy.
Joseph should know this but he either does not or is purposely misleading the public. Either way it does not make him look like an authority on the matter.
Global Warming: Man or Myth – The Science of Climate Change
Historian of science, Naomi Oreskes of UC San Diego, states “Scientific knowledge is the intellectual and social consensus of affiliated experts based on the weight of available empirical evidence, and evaluated according to accepted methodologies. If we feel that a policy question deserves to be informed by scientific knowledge, then we have no choice but to ask, what is the consensus of experts on this matter.”
Climate change has been extensively researched and the overwhelming majority of climate scientists agree that the observed modern day global warming is unprecedented and is very likely caused by humans. Although there is little serious debate between climate experts, many in the general public still think that these scientists are unsure about climate change and the role that humans have played in modern day global warming. The Website above summarizes some of the key research that has led scientists to their overwhelming consensus while also addressing some of the unfounded claims by climate change skeptics and denialists.
The only plausible explanation is that today’s warming is primarily due to human activities. The increase in greenhouse emissions can easily account for this warming. There is robust evidence for the man-made global warming. There are no other known sources of warming that can explain the observed modern climate change. People that claim there is no warming or that the warming is not caused by humans have offered no credible alternate hypotheses. Yes, these folks make claims but none of the claims has stood up to scientific scrutiny. Because I see/hear much disinformation from well-intentioned folks, I feel it is my duty to try to educate people on this very important matter. Unfortunately, it is an uphill battle because most of the real science is discussed in hard-to-read scientific journals and most of the bad science is easily accessible on Web pages, blogs, and other forms of mass media. Worse, there are political organizations such as The Heartland Institute that present themselves as scientific organizations but these organizations are directly and indirectly funded by the fossil fuel industry and others that stand to lose if greenhouse gas emissions are reduced.
Thanks, useful material. Add your blog to your bookmarks..
Al Gore was for 15 minutes the President of the United States. Now, stop and come to think of a super-ambitious pampered patrician reaching his life goal. The pinnacle of power. Whoopee. The whole chemistry of the guy changed in those 15 minutes and the crash when it came almost destroyed the man. To compensate our resilient Al chose to become the Saviour of Mankind, no less. If not the Leader of the Free World, then – the King of the (globally warming) Universe. The Nobel Prize provided some consolation to be sure; but Now, with scientific evidence creeping in from every corner that there is – after all – no global warming, poor Al Gore is about to become de-throned again. How pathetic
Al Gore is like the gift that keeps on giving
Hardly surprising about the German (and other European) hoarding…
Europeans and Americans choose to buy ordinary light bulbs around 9 times out of 10.
Banning what people want gives the supposed savings – no point in banning an impopular product!
If new LED lights -or improved CFLs- are good,
people will buy them – no need to ban ordinary light bulbs (little point).
If they are not good, people will not buy them – no need to ban ordinary light bulbs (no point).
The arrival of the transistor didn’t mean that more energy using radio tubes had to be banned… they were bought less anyway.
All lights have their advantages
The ordinary simple light bulb has for many people a pleasing appearance, it responds quickly with bright broad spectrum light, is easy to use with dimmers and other equipment, can come in small sizes, and has safely been used for over 100 years.
100 W+ equivalent brightness is a particular issue – difficult and expensive with both fluorescents and LEDS – yet such incandescent bulbs are first in line for banning in both America and the EU
Energy?
Since when does Europe or America need to save on electricity?
There is no energy shortage, there are plenty of local energy sources, Middle East oil is not used for electricity generation.
Consumers – not politicians – pay for the energy used.
Certainly it is good to let people know how they can save energy and money – but why force them to do it?
Emissions?
Most cars have emissions.
But does a light bulb give out any gases?
Power stations might not either:
In Sweden and France, as in Washington state practically all electricity is emission-free, while around half of it is in many European countries and in states like New York and California.
Why should emission-free households be denied the use of lighting they obviously want to use?
Low emission households will increase everywhere, since emissions will be reduced anyway through the planned use of coal/gas processing technology or energy substitution.
Also, the savings amounts can be questioned for many reasons:
For a referenced list of reasons against light bulb bans, see
http://www.ceolas.net/#li1x onwards
Even if a reduction in use was needed, then taxation to reduce consumption would make more sense since government can use the income to reduce emissions (home insulation schemes, renewable projects etc) more than any remaining product use causes such problems.
People can still buy what they want, unlike with bans.
However taxation on electrical appliances is in principle wrong for similar reasons to bans (for example, emission-free households are hit too).
I for one am glad that the bill has been held up. The Obama administration knows they are losing political capital very quickly. They are afraid that if they take too long to pass these huge spending bills that the voters will change their minds about him.
He knows that the American populace isn’t that stupid once they’ve been given a chance to really think about things.
Instead of finding ways to spend more taxpayer money, Obama should be finding a way to create more jobs. Instead he just sits on his hands and watches unemployment keep going higher.
And of course EVERYONE in America is wealthy so we’re at the top of the list.
The bears should be barbecuing a baby seal they are fatter and no doubt more filling
This summer has been cooler than normal in many areas, but it’s not a true year without a summer. In 1816, rivers in Pennsylvania had ice flows in June! The growing season ended in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic in August—after a late start because of June cold and snow. That year was a global disaster, not a slightly cooler-than-normal year.
Really impressed with your blog Design, and This post awesome. Can you provide more information on this?

You got that right. I voted Democrat last fall but I was not expecting this. I have regrets about voting Democrat now. This Cap&Trade is a huge new tax designed to raise the cost of fuel so that we will be forced to use less of it. It will be built into the cost of food, property taxes, clothing, books, bicycles, electricity, fertilizer, seeds and anything else we need to buy. I don’t see how raising the cost of everything will bring jobs, it’s the cost of everything that has caused this recession. Do you people in Washington have a clue what it’s like to raise 3 children on a single income? It sure doesn’t look that way. The Republicans said the Democrats were tax and spenders, but I didn’t beleive them. Now I’m pissed.
Fascinating stuff. While I’m convinced that climate change is very real, I am concerned about the retreat from the term global warming that we have been seeing. Certainly it’s more complex than that, and we are seeing climate extremes that can’t be simply described by the phrase “warming” Still, I’m afraid that it looks like we are retreating and admitting that the world is not warming.
